Matthew T. Cler
Vice President – Development
Matthew T. Cler joined Johnson Development in November 2008. Mr. Cler heads the firm’s regional development office in Indianapolis, Indiana, established to better serve the firm’s clients in the Midwest and adjoining regions of the country. Mr. Cler works in full concert with his colleagues in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, and is fully supported by all resources of the firm.
As Vice President of Development, Mr. Cler is responsible for all aspects of the development process for healthcare projects in the Midwest. These duties include the purchase of real estate or ground lease execution, site due diligence, securing planning and zoning approvals, execution of engagements with project consultants, pro forma development, leasing, and project management.
Mr. Cler has more than 15 years of healthcare related construction and development experience. Prior to joining Johnson Development, Mr. Cler served as the Director of Healthcare Business Development for an Indianapolis-based construction management firm working with a number of the area’s largest healthcare providers. Prior to that role, Mr. Cler served as a Director of Development Operations with a large national real estate developer focused on healthcare projects. In this role, Mr. Cler developed a number of medical office buildings and long-term acute care hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. He has also served as a Senior Project Manager and Senior Pre-Construction Manager for construction management firms in the Midwest focusing on healthcare.
Mr. Cler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Purdue University. He is currently involved with the membership development committee for the Metro Indianapolis Coalition for Construction Safety.
