Stewart T. Smith

As a Principal at Johnson Development, Mr. Smith is accountable for each step in the overall process in the development of healthcare real estate projects, from identifying and closing on transactions to leasing and construction.

Mr. Smith is principally responsible for organizing and overseeing the development team for a project and successfully delivering a complete facility, fully leased.  His responsibilities include working with new clients, business and leasing presentations to physicians, initial assessment and planning of individual sites, and selection and oversight of engineers, architects and contractors.  Mr. Smith develops financing scenarios, implements physician ownership transactions and provides oversight for leasing services. 

Mr. Smith has more than 25 years of experience in development and has been a part of the Johnson Development team for 15 years.  He has extensive experience in multi-tenanted medical office buildings whose tenants include various physician practices, all modalities of diagnostics, cancer treatment, healthcare retail, wellness, physical therapy and others.

Mr. Smith graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982.  Prior to joining Johnson Development, Mr. Smith provided planning, management and marketing direction for a regional urban development firm.  During an engagement in the public sector, he held operational responsibility for more than 300 employees and capital project responsibilities exceeding $350 million.

Mr. Smith has been a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of Alabama since 1986.
